Default On this Veteran's Day, I ask all the DLB members to read this post

I have long wanted to give back to our veterans by organizing a run in which all boating participants take along a few armed forces vets in their boats to share the thrill of performance boating that we all love so much. I think it would be best to be a no-stop run, because of the high probability of having disabled vets on the run that would need assistance in and out of the boats. My thoughts were to have an organized run that would start and end at the Discovery Bay Marina, with lunch provided at the end of the run in the grassy area (as they do with the Big Cat Run). There would have to be a zero-tolerance for alcohol consumption before and during the run, but once the boats are back at the docks with all passengers unloaded, drinking would be allowed (I would have a beer vendor on site). If this is something you would be interested in participitating in, please post up your thoughts and if you would be willing to provide a ride for this event. I hope to have Discovery Bay Marina give free launching to all participating boats, have lunch provided free of cost to all participants, as well as provide event t-shirts to everyone on the run for free. Sorry guys, but I know I won't be able to cover the DLB beer tab!

This Summer, I was able to take Sargeant David Bryant and his son out for a lunch run in the Stoker. They were thrilled with their performance boat experience and so was I to be able to give back a little for someone fighting for my freedom overseas.

I sincerely hope I get a good response from all of you, because I can't do this without you!

I really like the idea of giving back and expressing gratitude for our veterans, especially the ones that come out as MEN/WOMEN who can stand on their own two feet (figuratively speaking, of coarse).

The dlb is not an entity and can not "organize" any event. However, if you get all the wrinkles ironed out on your own, or can find an entity or company willing to organize and sponsor the cause, post up an invitation.

When the invite is presented... Count me in.

Thanks Seth, and yes I only refer to the "DLB" as the group of people that participate in the DLB runs. I will organize and put the entire event together; however, I need the support of everyone with a performance boat to make it happen! But I first need to know if I can get enough guys with boats to do this sort of thing. No sense in me starting to put this event together to have 5 boats show up. I'm looking to get 25 or so boats together so I could plan to have 50 or so veterans out for the day (2 veterans per boat). Hope that clarified things a little.

As a former Korean Veteran I think your idea of patriotism is wonderful. It certainly is more moving since the day I came home most people looked upon us as second rate citizens. Today is great and I thank you for thinking of us who served and especially those who never made it home.

Since I travel for work so much I run into our soldiers all the time in airports. I have never once passed up the opertunity to interupt my own phone call, conversation, whatever, and even step out of the security line to go up and thank these men and women for serving our country. A tank of gas is the least I can offer.
