    Hey guys..

Im not part of the dlb but i am looking to upgrade to a larger powerboat but not sure where to look for local listings... (CA) I own a nice scarab 22' now but need to upgrade to something 28-30' single engine, nice cabin ( no open bow mid cabin boats) Lookin to trade scarab an cash or just pay cash..

Well if you are not part of the dlb .................. come on out and talk with all the peeps, get an idea what you want, probably take a ride in one, then look for a boat for sale. Cat, V hull, single, twin? 26'- 27' seems to be the break point, not a lot of singles after that, hard on drives. There are a few guys that fly the dlb flag that have boats for sale. Definitely try before you buy. You might PM Hulshot on this site. Good Luck.

That's a pretty big boat for single engine, breaking drives is no fun. Anything in that range is going to be heavy so hopfully you have a solid toy vehicle. Don't be afraid to look out side the area taking a road trip is always a blast plus the boat selection is much better. Tony at hiline is a cool guy too he can point ya the right direction...good luck

I doubt you'll find it in CA, unless someone here from CA has one for sale. I knew I would end up traveling to find what I wanted. The wife and I narrowed down a list of "MUST HAVES" and "DON'T WANTS" and thinned out the herd. For instance, we knew we both loved the look of molded-swimsteps as opposed to bolt-on. I knew I wanted Mercruiser drivetrain, as opposed to Vulva (). I also knew I wanted a stepped-bottom. We also both knew we wanted open-bow-mid-cuddy for friends and family. The closed-bow boats we had both been in were WAY too hot for normal use. Unless we were going to go ocean-only, I would never have a closed-bow. But that's me and my crew. I also wanted to look OUTSIDE of CA, so I didn't have to pay tax. I had set a max $ amount of $55K. Beer30 was 4 years old at the time, 140 total hours, and they were asking $59K. I told them before we even went to look at it that I was looking to pay no more than $55K. He said he was open to that amount. We traveled from central CA to Scottsdale AZ to look at it. Took it to a local lake there (Pleasant) and took it for a spin. It had a noisy rattle at idle. I told him I would like $500 more off, just to help cover whatever the rattle was. Followed him to his bank, wrote them a check for $54,500. Had them call my bank to verify, and drove away.

The rattle was just the metal flappers in the exh tips. I knocked them out, since it has the rubber ones on the outside. No more rattle.

So, out of all of that, I think the most important part is the list of wants / dislikes. When looking at used, we don't get to pick EVERYTHING we want on a boat. But, there is one out there that is similar to what you want. Maybe even TWO!

Like i said before lookin for 28-30' single engine... Had no clue breaking a drive at that length was an issue but dont wanna pay for twins worth of fuel.. Looking for closed bow with cabin, molded swim deck possibly, 496ci or more with merc outdrive no tunnels. Deep v for cabin space an speed isnt top on my mind as long as she planes nice an can do 65-70 im happy.. My 22' scarab just isnt comfortable for overnights on the sac river or delta anylonger... My gf an her daughter wanna join its time i man up an join the gang of big boy toys. Traveling to az for the right one isnt out of sight for me, i kinda figured id have to head that direction anyway.

As for towing ive got a 2500 duramax, no probs there. Im always up to checkin out the dlb in my 22' just probabably wouldnt be able to keep up lol.

Somethin has my mind set on a nordic, but im open to options.

Mine is one of the only models you'll find a 30-footer in that still comes as single. With the slight mods I've done so far, I CAN hit 65-67 on the right day, but in normal lake-trim, it's a 60-mph boat. My crew likes to cruise at 40-45, which it does very well up on the first step.

29' Shockwave NuEra's and 29' Magic Wizards are all over the place for sale. Still singles, for the most part. Almost all of the 30' Sleeks are open-bow. I only see one every now and then that are closed. You won't see those in AZ, though. Too hot. The Delta would be more closed-bow friendly, without a doubt.

Breaking a drive is not the boat-size's-fault. It's the driver. Boats don't break drives....driver's do.
