    Default Delta 5 mph zones.

So I've been mostly a Delta boater for the last three years. Mostly lakes before that.

I'm noticing on the Delta that there are 5 mph zones everywhere and I'm wondering what's legit vs anybody with a dock putting their own markers out on the water or signs on their dock. Hell Lost Island still has a 5 zone. The slough leaving Orwood looks like dock owners just got carried away. Does the 100 ft rule over ride most 5 mph markers? If there are no boats on the dock can you blow past it legally?

I don't know the legal answer, but the three 5mph zones between Orwood and Discovery Bay are policed. I have seen cops docked by the big yacht (commonly known as the Gotcha Yacht due to tickets. LOL) pulling people over.

It was good to meet you at Garlic Brothers last weekend!!

Post # 4 rings most of my bells.

Post # 8 is pretty real.

What is the deal with 5mph zones on the Delta?

    Mr Nice Pair,
Please help all of us out. I know I did something wrong when we went to Sacramento last year and pissed you off. I'd really like to make sure I dont do that again. The tongue lashing I got from your girlfriend was tough.......

"Really" I had forgotten about that, even if you perceived it as me being pissed off. The gist was about common sense and courtesy. If you'd like to talk about it in person or on the phone I'd be really happy to explain my feelings about the days events.

    Nothing personal, NP

We have one of those home made 5 signs on our dock and they are just informational signs to warn boaters that don’t know the regulations. 200’ or further and your safe. The river where we are at is between 250’ and 300’ wide and that doesn’t leave a lot of room for safety if it’s a busy weekend.
With or without the sign there LEO will ticket you if your not complying with the laws.

NP, we've talked about it before and I admitted to my mistakes. Can we just drink to it and talk about hot chicks & boating? Did you get big purple boat going?

I found that thread also. It sounds like the 200 foot rule mostly applies. Gonna need to keep a tape measure in the boat. Or maybe one of those cool laser deals.

I spoke with one of the San Joaquin County Sheriffs last week. He confirmed that it is 200' from any boat that is on beached or docked.
