Saw a very interesting and somewhat disturbing article in the Delta Sun Times that just got delivered the other day. It talkes about the fact that there is a plan to install two Gates, one across Old River between Bacon Island and Holland Track and the other at Connection Slough between Mandeville and Bacon Island.
From what the article said not many people know how rapidly this plan is moving and if we don't take action and attend the meetings scheduled by the Bay-Delta Conservation Plan (BDCP) this will surely take place.
The plan was just released on July 16, 2009 and Permits are expected by October with Gate installation targeted for November 2009.
There is a meeting in Brentwood, the article doesn't say where in Brentwood or what time, but it will be held this Saturday, Sept. 19th and it strongly suggests that concerned boaters attend.
I will try and find out where and what time and post tomorrow.
You can read the entire article by going to http://www.deltasuntimes.com/ . The article starts at the bottom of page 1 and continues at on the bottom of page 6. You will have to click on "view Entire Setpember Issue" to get to page 6.
Just thought everyone would be interested in anything that might hinder our traveling the Delta waterways that we love to travel. This would make getting to certain locations a much longer trip and will also cut into the businesses like resturants and launches that we all frequent.
