Police in two cities will hold sobriety and drivers license checkpoints Friday in an effort to arrest drunken drivers and educate others about the dangers of driving while intoxicated.
The Martinez Police Department and Contra Costa Sheriff's Office have scheduled a checkpoint from 7 p.m. through midnight in the 3700 block of Alhambra Avenue. In Brentwood, the checkpoint was scheduled from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Sand Creek Road between Highland Way and Linden Drive. All motorists will be briefly stopped while officers confirm drivers are licensed and show no signs of intoxication. Any driver who is not licensed or has a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher will be arrested.
The checkpoints are paid for with grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
