Crews resumed searching Saturday morning for a 34-year-old man who has been missing in Mountain Island Lake since Friday evening.
Rescue squads in Gaston County received a call about 6:30 p.m., alerting them that a man had jumped into the lake from his boat but had not resurfaced. It happened near Nivens Cove Road, not far from N.C. 16 and Mountain Island Highway.
It is not clear who called authorities.
Crews from a half-dozen agencies searched Friday evening, but the effort was called off about 9 p.m. because of darkness.
Gaston Emergency Management officials did not release the identity of the man but said he was alone on the boat.
Crews from Stanley Rescue, the N.C. Fish and Wildlife Division, and Gaston County Emergency Management resumed the search about 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
Authorities plan to resume their search Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
