    Default Anybody from Alabama?

    Hello Everyone,
I'm a newbe to this forum and I live in central Alabama. Anybody on here with a hot v-drive, over the transom pipes (can we say loud) that has knowledge of local lakes in the state where one could play with a hot boat and not get hassled by the local lake patrol?

I lived in Calif for many years and owned many boats but never a v-drive flat or pickle. Had friends that did and had many opportunities to drive their boats. Don't know why I never owned one. I'm older now and have the hankering for a new toy to play with and a hot boat fills the bill. Looking for a used boat and right now I'm just trying to educate myself before buying.

I thought someone could provide some insight on places to run, other boat owners, here in Alabama or nearby. Let me hear from you Southerners!!!

    Jim

    Default anybody from alabama ?

Alot of the lakes don't like loud boats here in Alabama. We all run our jet boats with open o/t heaters on the rivers with out any problems. When and if we go to the lakes we put our baffels in tone the sound down. The big thing around hear are jet boats not many v-drives . The rivers are the best place to play. Hope to see you on the river.

    Default Why is that?

OK I understand jets in Alabama as I've read some of the other post on this forum. I did see an invitation for a gathering outside of Tuscaloosa which seemed to be aimed towards jet boats. I'm wondering why only jets in Alabama. Is it becuse of the trash and logs in the waterways and possible more of a hazard to prop boats? I've seen many bass boats running up and down the lakes and rivers at 75 MPH and there are inherant risks due to obstacles in the water, even for bass boaters. I'm not trying to be a wise a** just asking a question.

Since I'm only interested in owning a v-drive flat or variant thereof, is there some reason these are not workable on Alabama waterways that I have not considered, other than the noise and speed. This is the reason I came to this forum...for information.

I'm not putting down jets by any means, but there are two factors that go along with hot boats and that's speed (under safe circumstances and away from crowds) and loud pipes. Doesn't matter jet or prop.

Lake Martin which is near me has recently cracked down on off shore boats running at high speeds and the resultant noise. I would suspect that running any O/T pipes, wet or dry with a BBC would get you a noise ticket before you left the marine. I would also imagine that putting the hammer down even in a remote cove on the lake would cause the gendarmes to come running, with a citation to follow. This is just my guess on Lake Martin.

Many lakes in Calif. would probably have the same outcome. Having said that, I know there are some lakes in Calif. and Ariz. that are more user friendly than others. The Colorado River at Parker seems to pretty wide open, (within reason). My question is are there lakes, rivers, etc. in Alabama where one can run a hot and loud boat, either jet or prop and have a reasonable expectation of not getting a ticket.

In Alabama, voilations on the water add points to your driving record just like a speeding ticket on the interstate. I would like to hear from Alabama hot boaters (jet or otherwise)on this subject.

    Jim

    Default anybody from alabama ?

There is no problem running v-drive boats . There are a few around and realy run great. I am just saying more jets than v-drives are around here. I like v-drives, out/ boards ,and jets. It is true all states are cracking down on all fast boats. We just don't give up on running our boats that we realy like. We try to find places with out the law messing with us. Don't want any problems, just want to run our boats. Foster ,Al. is a cool river to hang out .

I saw your post on another thread along with the pic's of Fosters. From the map that looks like it's on the Tombigbee. Spent some time on that river when I was a kid, about 9 years old. My Dad loved to fish and always took me along. We lived in Northport at the time.

Do you have an organized club with a schedule for week-ends to play or just a bunch of friends getting together informally according to who shows up on a given weekend?

I am in Birmingham....would love to hook up and run. Today I noticed w-boatman is located in Glenn Allen. I travel the state regularly and hope to stop by, say "HI" and see his setup in the near future. Hoping to get together with some folks in Fosters in the spring.

Discussed here in the tread below.....lets keep it going
