There was a guy that ran one back in the late 60's early 70's on the west coast that went 200+ consistently, in a regular old open cart. Fast and dead silent. Quiter than a turbo motor if you can imagne that!!!!

I seen that guy. It was at Sacramento. They ran the Jets and Rockets at night. Up comes this little cart he was almost laying down on with a rocket motor. The start line was well lit as was the end but the middle was a lot darker. Anyway off he went and a little over half track all you coud see was sparks. The cart went through the lites at over 200 but there was no driver. A minute later he came running out of the dark. Would of been enough to keep me off of that thing.

    Default Hydrogen Peroxide Kart

Saw Captain Jack McClure run 219 at Orange County Dragstrip. I believe that he raced Pisano Brothers funny car on that run. The Kart won, as I remember. You can probably google him and find out more about him.

The cart was thrust only and not driven through the wheels. Scary stuff!

His name is Jack McClure. He is one crazy SOB!
He worked with a company called Turbonique that build some really bizarre stuff. Towards the end he was running strictly H2O2 carts and dragsters.
Hey Hass, for those that think turbos are 100% free HP, check out 3:30 minutes into the first vid. Now that FREE HP!!!!

Turbonique also made some units that bolted on to the rear end housing. Kind of turned your car into a turbo prop. The thrust turned an impeller that was hooked to the ring and pinion and the car was driven through the tires.

Saw a Chevelle and a GTO at Lions that were using that set up. I think that it was good for taking at least 3 seconds of ET off about a 13 second car. They said that they were working on larger units also.

I think that Turbonique is still in business or back in business under another name.

If Bob hooked one to his V-drive, it would be quite a ride coming out of the last corner to the finish line.

Better check the rule book on that one.

Yeah Skip, thats what we need, a Turbonique mounted to the front of the output shaft. Rules? RULES?? We don't read no stink'n rules!

The first Turboniques in the vid are shaft turbines racing IVO's 4 Buick dragster. One of the very first the built went into a VW Bug hooked to a truck rearend. Never saw that deal. It was before I was able to get myself to the tracks.

Evidently not all the runs went according to plan though. I think this is what made them go to a larger vehicle.

As far as karts at Bonneville, I served as crew chief for a shifter kart at Bonneville. We set the world record for the WKA Legal Shifter Kart speed runs in both 250cc and 500cc classes. The USFRA outlawed karts at Bonneville after that year. Pics attached (speed run pic = me on the left).

Getting back to jet propulsion: pictured below is my friend's 1955 Ford with a +0.030" 460 (soon to be 4.30" stroke 514) and a pulse jet mounted in the bed. He is hoping to get his red cap with this brick.
