I have a question regarding an oil pump for a gen 4 motor?
The book I am using to go over my 90 454 motor does not mention anything about a gasket between the oil pump and its plate.
When I opened up the pump it was in great shape and there was no gasket. Needless to say I put it back together just the way it was.
Now the question? My felpro gasket kit comes with a oil pump gasket? Anyone know why?
From everything I know about oil pumps, all this would do is lower your oil psi if you put it in?
Whats up with felpro?
NO GASKET! EVER! It will lower you oil pressure BIG TIME!
Felpro puts that gasket in every R.A.C.E. kit as well. GM used a gasket on the pump plate at one time and the gears were longer, extended passed the pump body, and allowed for the gasket. If you pump did not have a gasket, do not install one.
Felpro continues to put it in the kit because it was used at one time. But I would imagine all those pumps are long since dead.
Gasket kits been coming with pump cover gasket for years..big and small block....no idea why..other than to sell another gasket kit when the motor fails because of lack of oil pressure...for using that gasket.
Makes you wonder about what goes on with these kits where they send out gaskets you dont need and in return they leave out the ones you actually need, so you half to go back to the store and order more!
