What EXACTLY do you mean by the term "proper" roller gear, and how many hours do you have on the engine?

Do you know what punctuation is?
What GN means is, what is the gear made of? Bronze, steel, iron, or do you know/can you tell?

I would never run the stock iron gear supplied on a dizzy from MSD or mallory on a roller cam. Amazed that any body at Isky OK'd that. If you didn't take out the cam gear, consider yourself lucky.
There are melonite iron gears out there that you can run on a roller cam, but they don't come stock on MSDs or mallory's.

Get a bronze gear or a melonite iron gear.

In the past, at least some of the MSD distributors did come with bronze gears. I had several of them here as I like to run 2 pc and was having to buy iron gears to replace the bronze ones.

Not saying that the MSDs don't or can't come with a bronze gear. Just saying I would NEVER run the iron gear that comes on them and Mallory's on a roller.

OF COURSE THIS ASSUMING THE CAM DOESN'T HAVE AN ADDED IRON GEAR OPTION!!!!!
In which case the stock iron gear is fine.

    Oh-WTF > now I gotta read this!
Before I used my Lunatti Voodoo roller cam and dropped in the new MSD-RTR dizy I researched the gear compatibly that came on the MSD till I was exhausted > I was told it was "FINE to use with my roller cam"

RELAX. First of all, are you talking about a hyd roller or a solid? How do you know its not a SADI cam core. No all roller cams require a bronze or melonite gear. Last I heard, all Voodoo rollers were built with Everwear cam gears which do not require a special dizzy gear. Did you happen to notice the difference in the way the cam looks between the lobes compared to the way it looks between the gear and rear journal in your pic? Does that area look CAST to you?

I just happen to believe that unless the OP's cam is a ISKY is a hyd roller, then its on a billet core of some material that will most likely require a bronze or melonite gear.

agree. i've eaten a melonite gear, but it took several years to do it. now run bronze, and i'm on the 3rd one. they'll last for awhile, but ya gotta keep an eye on the things.
another thing. with the out of box distributors with solid collars, you gotta make sure the gear is fully engaged with the cam gear. different manifolds have different heights at the dist. boss. might need an adjustable collar to get the gears properly engaged. not hard to do, just could be overlooked...

    ...
One problem with the melonite gears is, if it fails, they have a bad tendency to take the cam gear with them. Never had a bronze gear take out the cam gear. Had them wear to damn near nothing, get sloppy as as hell, but not fail out right.
