    Default 1/16" rings?

I run 1/16" rings in my drag car, but I am not sure if they are the right choice for a BBC lake boat. I run it w.o.t. whenever I get the chance, and I dont pull skiers, it's just a toy.Any reason I shouldn't run them?

Nope... The piston selection these days tend to favor the use of 1/16 rings... and if you have the means to do the job, I'd go with a file fit.

OEM is using 1.5 MM rings and having them go alot more miles than you'll ever rack up in a boat.

If you are looking at a shelf piston and the grooves are designed for 1/16 rings, then there is nothing wrong with running them. But, as GN7 stated, the "thinner" rings are working very well nowadays and if you had a choice, then I wouldn't hesitate to run something thinner/narrower. A lot of popular or standard shelf parts (at many companies) have been set up with the 1/16 rings, but that is because the shelf part has not been updated and also because it takes years to get most the customers to build confidence to make that change.
