    Default Eagle rotating assembly.

I just picked up a used shortblock for my Excalibur project.

It's a Dart Big M tall deck block with an Eagle 4.25" crank and 6.535" rods.

Right now it's at 4.530 bore and could use to go to 4.560.

Originally I had planned to just re-sell the Eagle stuff but with my ever shrinking budget I'm wondering if I could use it.

How much HP can it handle in a twin turbo pump gas 555 ?

    Thanks,

    Doug

I would say your tuning will have a major role in what will live and what will not. What sort of boost you looking to throw at it?

How many cranks does Eagle make? 4 or 5? Rods? Same question. Some are rated to 500 hp some at 1200. What do you have?

What can I get away with on 93 octane 8.7:1 compression and aluminum heads about 7 lbs ?

The crank is part number 445442526385 which Eagle rates at 1500 hp

The rods are CRS66353D which are rated for 850 hp with the ARP 8740 Bolts.
I would re size them and replace the bolts with ARP 2000s which Eagle rates at 1200 hp

.......though I don't know if I trust their ratings...

I would think with the right cam you could get that if not a bit more. Probably about 32-34 total timing. Just make sure the guy that tunes it knows what he is doing.

I doubt you can break either with pump gas, if, like six-o-nine said, the tune is right.
Turbos + boat. Impossible to make 10lbs of boost at 2500 rpm under load. Its not exactly a pickup towing a trailer uphill. I doubt you could turn enough RPM to hurt either.

..........or am I better off using these old Carrillo rods ??

They need to be rebushed and they're covered in surface rust but they are 6.535" long...

PS. I just looked them up. They have the "CARR" bolts in them. They're $2300 new

I have seen people use a rod in this condition. I would make sure it was polished and any pitting removed first. Then maybe peened. But I am sure someone will cum along and say something else. Your eagle rods with the 2000 bolts I think would be a better choice. The longer rod might be a good idea. Make better use of the tall deck.

    Both sets are 6.535 long...

The eagle 4340 stuff isn't as bad as everyone seems to think. My uncle has been running all eagle internals on his 1500hp camero for years. My dad has a 900hp 555 eagle internal in his scarab for the past 6 yrs. If the Chinese forging is so bad why has Carrillo, lunati and other us companies added Chinese forged components to their sales list?
