Default Ok so i have this crazyyyy idea.. would like to know what you all think

Here is what my mind is cooking up and wondering if it is even possible........

I would love to twin turbocharge my bbc in my boat.... I am in the middle of building a 20 ft open bow Hawaiian jet boat. its going to have a
American turbine pump, place diverter, b impeller etc.. this is where my problem is forming in my mind...

I have built many car engines like this no problem but when it comes to boats im kind of a dummy... these are the headers im thinking of starting with

    Big Block Chevy BBC T4 Twin Turbo Stainless Headers 427 454 396 502 572 Manifold | eBay

and tig welding jackets on them... is this necessary?? I am going to run a open engine compartment... should i just run the exhaust dry?? can i jacket the pipes before and after the turbo? and leave the turbo alone? was planning on running somewhere in the neighborhood of 9.1:1 compression on a 496 ci. carb set up ... aluminum heads brodix bb0's .. am i crazy? is there a reason i do not see this ? im not trying to be stupid fast... just different than the normal. im going to run the boat here in the mid west on weekends .. any input would be greatly appreciated.

Why run such a small impeller with tt? Go big or go home... Serious, why a b seems small?

Oh, open engine, screw all that jacket work... Not needed.

Ok, if you have the skills, shouldn't hurt... But why go thru all that? If it ass a family boat, maybe be good to keep the headers cool if someone bumped them .

Ok, give your honest expectation of this set up.

have no need to go over 70 mph.... not really looking for a racer but would like it to be a neat thing to take out and turn heads... these boats are not big up here. so its going to be a big head turner.. the kids arent big on skiing. but can still do that just dump em from the middle of the boat. im a big turbo guru... i run a drag car with a bbc and a 90mm turbo .. love the sound and the effect.. im building this out of pleasure would be nice to intertwine my racing likes with my pleasure boat

you want to turn heads put a blower and injection on it and make it loud then back it up with lotsa chrome and good paint. atleast thats what seems to do the trick around here.

    .

Yes... but everyone has a blower... that is the dilemma... nothing like the loud whistle of turbos!

I would not spend a bunch on that hull. It will not be 100mph boat. Just do the chrome and polish thing on it. Find a Runner Bottom without a motor to do what you are talking about. It will turn more heads. Especially if you put numbers on it. Numbers make them a legit race boat.

Those headers wont last long before they crack. They are thin. And you WILL need to install heat shields on the headers as the radiant heat coming from them will melt everything in the boat. Even stuff that is 12-14" away. Those headers will glow red when making power. Heat shields arent that big of a deal to make. Just tack weld the heads of some 1/4" stainless bolts to the headers in stratigic spots and use them for studs to bolt the shields to. The shields should come up between the tubes to protect the spark plugs or it will melt the boots right off of them on the first trip.
heres what my shields look like

not only that, 1 7/8" headers seem way to small for even just a mild 496. There is nothing good about $400.00 headers. If your going to turbo the boat you need to spend the money and buy or build a good set of headers that way your not chasing problems down the road.

Well i have a tig welder.. bender etc so I agree building the headers would be the best option I think.. besides I want the turbos more toward the transom anyhow.
was also concearned with the 1 7/8 also i was thinking a minimum of 2 "
