Steelcomp built the engine, and the cam was designed by Cstraub, and I believe ground by Bullet. Anybody can do it, but who would you pick to actually lay down the specs. I doubt most cam grinders are all that interested in making a suggestion in the area.

If I am not mistaken, the engine that Steelbuilt was a OEM iron headed deal. With most better aftermarket heads and some work the need to the split is minimal at best.

    EDIT:
Just went back and looked and yes it was an OEM iron oval port build.

The cam would be goin in a 402 with some factory openchamber ovals the engine runs great now but there is always room for improvment, if im thinking right the best way to pick the cam would to flow test the heads and see what percentage of differance there was and then make the same percentage of change on my duration for the good/bad port right ?

Its not exactly that easy. Its not just what the flow difference is, but at what lift the differences occure. The entire lobe is probably a different family, not simply a shorter or longer duration. It may also have different intake centerline and LSA and from its corresponding exhuast lobe. The entire shape of the lobe as well as its duration and timing in relation to its own cylinders exhaust could be defferent as well.
Its not rocket science. Its voodoo black magic.

You get the heads flowed and give the numbers to Steel. I would ask him first just how much there is in you particular built first. Its not earth shattering.

Thanks We ran ok and did what we went there to do which was run well enough to wrap up the championship. We had a hard time keeping enough heat in the thing to keep the plugs clean. It ran stone cold the entire race. Should have either restricted the water more or ran hotter plugs or both. It made nowhere near the heat the blower motor does.

Hey bowtie...I worked with CStraub on this one. He's the guru.

He propably doesn.t even have a water pump. don't need one. Most race boats don't have them.

It has magnaflow. But the engine was our GN engine with the blower lifted off and a different cam. Thing was a terrible combo. Manifold too big, cam too big, heads too big. It simply made no where near the heat the blower boat does in a GN race. It was my fault and I should have restricted the water more, and or tossed in at least 2 step woarmer plugs.

Is that engine run on alcohol normally or did it just have a really low compression ratio for that race with out the blower?
Im just saying if it was blown alcohol it could be a little higher than if it was blown gas and then just switch to gas for the race with out the boost
