    Default broke a guideplate

.....on a BBC. Everything else stayed together. Rocker arm and pushrod look ok. Anybody else experience this? I'm hoping that it's not a more serious issue than just a warn out or beat up part.

if it broke where it was bent, and the others show what looks like a pinch mark where they form it, it's pretty common. The good ones are more radiused where they bend them and they don't break

It's a Manley and they're about 8 years old. It broke right in front of the rocker arm stud.?

Those guide plates are very brittle and not always flat at where they bolt to the head. When they are torqued down I have heard them crack during the torque process. We don't use them any more.... however it did last 8 years for you....

there are, to my knowledge, only two BBC guide plates worth a shit. Comps and Dart adustable.

I second the dart adjustable guideplates. They saved a novice like me a lot of time and I am on my second season with them.
