    Does anyone have a dyno sheet or two they would like to share of a big Hp Big Block on Nitrous? Would like to compair a sheet from 5,000 to 7,000 of a engine N/A and then on the juice. Just asking for no good reason.

    Hey Sleeper, In my mind there is no such thing as a no good reason for info. I am not a fan and nor will I ever run the coolant as feul. But on your'e side it would be cool to see a dyno sheet that was not doctored and a motor tuned for total H/P readings with and without the squeeze. It will be hard to find though. IMO. M

    Fixed bottle psi, fixed fuel psi, and fixed n20/fuel jets means same amt of nitrous/fuel is added no matter what engine, no matter what rpm, etc.

    You are getting same thing at 4k vs 8k.

    You should see close to same hp added at low rpm as you do high rpm.

    Although HP added doesn't change a whole lot with rpm, torque will. That old math thing.

    I'm not much of a hands on nitrous person. So take the above for what's it's worth.

    BTW: This is why you see NOS systems rated in hp. 150/175/300/500/ etc. It's the NOS companies telling you what each group of jets will add with their recommended bottle psi and fuel psi.

    The only people I know that aren't fan's of Nitrous are those that don't use it. It's called "Sex in a Bottle" by my brother and me. The shit will "curl your toes" if you have a heart beat.

    I have used it on the boat since 1990 and even though I've blown some stuff up I wouldn't change a thing. I tell eveyone I know that is new to Nitrous " There are two types of Nitrous user's, those that have blown up shit and those that will"

    The reason I was asking was just sometime next yr if I have a couple of day's( to pull it out and dyno for a day) and have some extra $ I would love to put the engine back on the dyno and play with a few things to get it dailed in a try to pull 950 out of it off the bottle and just run the 200 Nos system on the dyno just to see it hit 1,150. That would be a good dyno sheet to put on my office wall.

    I was thinking, I'd love to dyno sometime like this past week with air temp's of 104-110 degrees to get the jetting and timing set for those condititions.

    Just collecting info (or trying anyway) to log in my little brain to use later.

    Interesting question and I tried to get an answer a while back. We dyno'ed our 509" motor at about 850 HP. It was set up with a cheater system and I wanted to hit it with 150 HP shot to see if it actually added 150 HP, i.e. make 1000 HP. My dyno guy at the time chickened out and wouldn't let us do it.
    I'm guessing the calculated 150 HP is based on the lbs/hr conversion for gasoline and assumes 100% combustion. I'd bet since the recomended jets tend to be fat for the NOS injected, you wouldn't get advertised HP... Hope someone with real info can correct me on this...
    Finally, you are spot on with the "sex in a bottle" comment. Stuff is bad ass and yea, we've blown some stuff up with it. Never the less, we plan on adding it to our combo for the end of this season or first of next (once we quit blowing chit up , more on this later).

    There are a couple of things to look at when you're wanting to run nitrous on the dyno.

    First, many dyno setups are not capable of running nitrous. The dyno must be set with a certain load based on the engines torque, and when you change that by a couple hundred foot pounds mid run the dyno can run away. This causes many dyno operators to shy away from even running nitrous on the dyno.

    Second, just seeing how another engine (completely different from yours) with a different nitrous system reacts won't really tell you much. You won't know how the engine was tuned, or set up when the nitrous was off or on and the same with the nitrous tune-up.

    As far as how much HP a 150 HP plate will make (for example) it has to do with more than just the nitrous system. If the nitrous is a little too fat, but the engine is lean, and you don't take too much timing out it will produce more than the 150HP rating (this is very common) and the reverse is true.

    If you're looking at running a nitrous engine on the dyno first find a dyno shop that can and will do it. Next make sure they can run your engine just like it comes out of the boat (your ignition, exhaust, etc) this will get you the closest tune-up prior to hitting the water.
