    Default Porting intake manifold

What's up fellas? I needed some opinions on porting a Holley Strip Dominator intake manifold. This is currently the intake that I have on my boat along with a 750 dp Holley. It's a 454 .30 with 049 that have been ported a lot! I'm not sure What they are flowing or what the maximum airflow you can get out of a pair of 049's is but it's pretty damn close. Anyway I'm going to go up to a 850 and wanted to see what you guys think about porting the manifold or hold off..

    thanks!

Who ported the heads? The difference between GOOD ovals and junk is about two hairs on the short side radius. Maybe even less in the intake valve throat. A good oval can flow as much as 325cfm in the RIGHT hands. It can loose 50 cfm from stock in the hands of a "self proclaimed porter"
Every time I see "ported to the max" I think A little clean up and "pocket porting" and I think how much harm can be done. Shit house crazy with a grinder, and the heads can be semi good boat anchors.
there is more to porting a Holley Strip Dominator than hogging out the ports. The biggest gains are probably in the plenum area and woirking on the distribution. JMO

Be careful whatever you decide, I have a tunnel ram that a blind person did one hell of a job port matching it and now I can’t hardly give it away..

some people can make a nightmare of a wet dream once they get a die grinder in their hands. I am sure the guy that did these thought they "flow the max" for an oval port.

Thanks fellas. The heads were done before I had the motor and Bob Goodwin polished them when I had the motor freshened. I was debating whether or not to go with a tunnel ram but I'm probably going to stick with a single carb for now. You know any reputable guys out here in SoCal, GN?

What's with all the reversion? Intake ports should not have exhaust in them.

That is what happens when some guy is sold a bill of goods that a set of ovals will flow better if he does that when using ovals with a rectangular manifold. Not too sure that did alot of harm to the flow considering where its at in the port, but it sure as hell didn't help. Its quite possible that the airflow hitting that extreme change in the port will disrupt flow on hell of alot more than any "mismatch" between oval and rectangle.

There is no limit to the dumb shit that is done by some "experts"
