What ring packs are you buying that don't have a SS 50 oil ring. The last Speedpro sets I bought had them(naturally, its their ring), as well as the rings from JE. which are made by Total Seal. I would think that that you could buy just the oil ring from JE, Total Seal, or Akerly and Childs.
Not to sure that JE/Total Seals are actual SS 50 rings, but they are patterened after them.

I have never like the Hasings type "flex vent" oil ring. If I am not mistaken, Perfect Circle is using an oil ring like the Hastings flex vent as well. They are a bitch to get aligned correctly and keep that way until they are in the hole. Childs and Albert used them in their ZGS ring sets and I hated them.

Been snooping for two weeks, EVERYBODY we talked to told us the same thing, there are no SS50U left. The few that are around for like the "stock" type car stuff are made in Mexico, the tensions are all over the place.

They all say they are using the Hastings stuff now and have been for awhile ??????

If somebody has the inside connection with a ring deal let me know !

I haven't had to buy rings for almost a year now. Maybe longer. I had some sets on the shelf that I had been using. Hadn't heard about a shortage. I don't doubt that they are being made in Mexico. Biggest reason I stopped using Speedpro and Clevite bearings. Heard Clevite is better now that Mahle bought them, but I had already moved on to ACL bearings and love them.

Total Seal sells the oil ring that is like the S type in the attachment I posted. The last set of JE rings I bought for a 4.5 bore were that ring. I don't think Total Seal is having them made in Mexico. I think they are making there own ring of the "type" and its available in Ultra low, low and high tension.

The hang up may be if you are looking for low tension.
    JE has std tension 4.310 X 3/16 SS 50 type in stock. Part# S34310-316LCUS for 9.37 each.
But their low tension is a flex vent Hastings type.

Check for sealed power rings with an engine builder and go thru the stock! Chances are you may find an old set with the ss50u ring. Sealed Power designed, built and patented that ring and also used it in the Speed-Pro line. Its been whored up to anybody wanting to it buy for years. You cant beat the perfect design!
