    Default Ethanol to methanol question

I am considering changing to meth cause I don't trust E85 on a 9.75 to 1 static, blown 496. My carbs have been set up to run E85 on 8 lbs of boost. I am wanting to flip the pulleys to get 14 lbs but don't trust the ethanol. Can my carbs run methanol by simply jetting for meth? Or do I need to do anything to the metering blocks? These carbs are boost referenced and set up for alki.

    Thanks

You not only going to need different metering blocks, your going to need different boosters, and could even possibly need bowls with dual needles.
You'd probably be better off selling the E85 carbs and buying carbs set up for meth.

What is it you don't trust about the e85. There are guys running more boost AND compression than that on the stuff. 14lbs and 9.75 is nothing for E85.

I cant get Drum E85 and I've heard the octane from the pump varies. Will pump E85 carry the boost?

The octane is not the variance problem with E85, the percentage is. If the percentage is there, it will handle that compression and boost easily.
The octane of the ethanol is what it is. No such thing as low octane ethanol. Its not a blended substance. Its a singular molecule, not a mixture of compounds that can effect the octane. The gas they wix with it is 87 octane. The cheapest shit they can find. How do you make the octane lower?
Only by the percentage of ethanol blended in. No other way to lower it.

Works for me I'll just flip and re-jet and run the shit out of it. A few extra horses will be nice.

    Thanks

You shouldn't have to jet it much, if at all. The carb knows there is more air passing thru it. Its how they work.

Im just gonna take it a little on the fat side. I have an Innovate AFR meter Im hooking up before it hits the water this summer. Once I get it figured out, I'll fine tune the jetting. Got to learn how to use it first. And probably learn a little more about carb tunning, I'll get it going my way eventually. Thanks again.

I would rather spend my money on beer and fuel than another motor.

How do you know where the envelope rips if you don't push on it? Anybody that tells you they have never blown something up is either lying, or leaving a shit load of power on the table. Like saying you were an AMA Supercross champ, and never ever tasted dirt or the NASCAR CUP champ and never touched the wall.

E85 will take a lot of boost, I've put 30# to it without an intercooler.
I never checked the ethanol % out of the pump in 5 years of running it and have not had a problem.

With an Innovate wideband you can get the tune right on.
Hass has one and is up to speed on them.
    I run .72 lambda at 25#+ boost which is 6.9:1 A/F ratio
You shouldn't need that much fuel for 1 bar boost.
.75 lambda should be a great plenty.
