Good call on the "Sidewinder". only someone who knows FE's would know that. There's hope for you yet .......

The heads are from Survival Motorsports. FE Stroker Kit Tech

They are basically an up-graded Edelbrock ( chamber, and ports) My head guy thinks they'll support 600hp at 10.5:1 with the old Crane flat tappet I have in the 427MR stroker motor. To me anything over 550 with this engine is just gravy.

I got that manifold maybe 15 years ago when Neil (SDPM) called me and said " hey you need to go by that junk yard over on Vernon Way there's an engine in there you might be interested in. It has a Shelby intake manifold on it" The engine ended up being a crap junk pile but I did end up with a nice intake. $325.00 15 years ago it worth what today?

Cool story on the manifold. Back around 1985 I was looking for a 9" out of a 67-70 Mustang, or Early Fairlane to stick under a early Falcon. I find this notch back 69, ugly ass green metallic, herringbone pattern vinyl top, Ghia Mustang with a 9". So I stick transmission in neutral and climb under it to start removing it the thing. Turns out it has a "L" on the gear tag. 31 spline axles and a Detroit Locker ????WTF. Climb out and look under the hood. Its a 335HP/390GT like they stuffed into 68 Fairlanes and Mustang GTs. Somebody ordered a big time sleeper! Grabbed the engine, trans and rearend. Still have the rear end and engine. To this day it is the crazyest package I have ever encountered in a wreaking yard.

The Shelby heads are/were cast by Edelbrock. I think Denbeste still has them casting the heads and manifolds now that he owns them. The "circle" is cast in the rocker area between the 2 intakes has an "E" for Edelbrocks and a "C" with an "s" inside the C when they are Shelbys. Same heads.

However, and what threw me with those pics is, I think THAT head is exclusive to Rabotnick with the "heart chamber" that I believe was worked out by ET Perfomance. The Edelbrock and Shelby heads do not have that chamber. Primarily because they will not except standard off the shelf domes. They are looking for compatibility. WHO CARES! Thats one of the best things that has happened to that head in 50 years! I understand there is/are some LS inspired "bowl" top pistons that work great with that chamber in the works as well, as well as any standard flat top.
    Nice head. Thanks for sharing.

Yeap something new for a FE head:

will certainly make the head more efficient. It will be interesting to see what they are capable of. My head guy is all kinds of excited about them.

I'll be cleaning the old license plate:

Funny that Rabotnick along with ET fronted the money to get Edelbrock to produce the tooling for those. Denbeste keeps more money in his shoe then Rabotnick is worth and yet Rabotnick is the one that stepsup.
Instead Denbeste pays Arias to modify the LS hemi head to fit a Windsor. Yeah, bet thats a huge seller More like Denbeste's personal play thing.

funny how that works out sometimes.

    I made some progress today:

so after 26+ years found out what the problem was:

Number 3 intake push rod. the cup broke and the push rod jumped off the lifter.

This view made me a little nervous:

but all the cly on the 1-4 bank were in very good shape. there was water in 7-8 and some rust. I sprayed it with WD-40 and took a little emery cloth to it and most cleaned-up. The engine will be getting bored .015 over for the new pistons.

I'm looking forward to this project.

Did that lifter in the pic land there when the PR went south?
.015? I thought .017 was the standard overbore for a FE.
You need to run a build thread on this Jon.

No all the lifters were in place.

when the time comes I'll make a thread on the build progress.

I was talking with Crower the other day and he told me he had a perfect core for a cam for it. I sent him the specs on the old Crane cam in the engine ( 256 at .050, 108 lobe sep, .601 lift) Dan said " If that old Crane is in good shape just run it that's a very good grind for that engine and the nostalgia factor just adds to it" I saw a little pitting on the #7 lobes but the cam isn't out yet.

I think Diamond makes a .015 piston but maybe not. I'll know soon enough.

JE sells a shelf stock 11cc dish that works out to about 10.5 with that chamber, and a 6 cc dome that works out to around 12.5. Both are .017 over that makes it 4.250, so a wide choice of rings exist. The dome may take a tiny bit of shaping to fit that chamber, but I don't think it would be much.
