    Default Gimme' some Head!

So What I thought was just a blown head gasket turned out to be a blown through head.
    So here are the questions:
    1) Why did this happen?
    2) Repairable?
    3) These heads are closed (3964290). What would it take to run the open set I have on the shelf (14096118)?
    4) Would swapping the heads even be a good idea?
    5) What if I used some flat pistons?

The cam, if any is very mild. the pistons I believe are stock.
Barry.... I'm hoping to hear from you.

You know you can always phone, PM or email me.

I would have to guess you had too much timing for whatever compression/fuel combination you had.

Unless the heads are really something special, probably cheaper and easier to replace them. You could run flat tops with open chamber heads (468?), but will be down on compression, you probably would like to be somewhere just over 9-1 with iron heads.

I guess you mean 14096188, those would drop you compression a bit, making it a bit "safer", assuming the block and pistons were not damaged. Depending on your combination, dome volume, head gasket, deck height, I did a quick calculation at about 10.78-1 guessing a small .095" tall dome (almost 14cc), and 101 cc combustion chamber volume. The 116cc 188 head would drop it to 9.49-1 if everything else remained "constant", a lot happier place for an iron head, pump gas, jetboat engine.
