    Default 4-7 swap camshaft

Are these good camshafts for a bbc i have one in my 468 its a crane 737 726 lift, brodix 2x heads with 108cc combustion chambers,43cc domed manley pistons, eagle h beam rods,gm 7416 gm forged steel crank, jesel belt drive, crane roller rockers, crane stud girdles, crank trigger, pro dominator tunnel ram with two 1050 dominators.

This motor seams to pull alot harder at high rpm than any 468 i have ever had just would like to know the benefits of this camshaft, the motor seams to run alot smoother than any other high compression 468 i have ever had to

Yes they do smooth the motor out. Have seen more HP on the Dyno as well. Same basic cam one was normal and othe was the swap. It was a strong motor. Apx 800 HP. Seems like the difference was around 50 hp with the swap. Might have been 15 but it was more. Chris Straub or GN7 will tell you. I dont know chit.

Never seen 50HP increase. Heard it claimed, but never seen it myself. I would have to doubt the original combo that gave up 50 HP to a firing order.
If the firing order had that much effect on HP, Ford should have owned Chevys since 1969.

I started using the 4-7 swap in my 540 a number of years ago.
In talking to various people who should be in the know, they all indicated I may or may not see a power gain.
What they found was that it seemed to equalize the intake charge some and made for a smoother running engine.

When I asked if it had any disadvantages, the answer was, no.
It seemed like a logical choice at the time and I still run them.

They sound so cool that NASCAR came to us and said get rid of them or go home, so we had to change the program. The biggest change by dynoed numbers were at the upper med-range and top of the RPM scale. As to have 50 HP gain is fudging it a bit, maybe a spike by the dyno operator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Cool

When I ordered my cam from Chris, I did ask about the 4-7 deal..I was told it would make power on a Pro-Stock moter..not much on my deal..So to throw my hat in the ring, how come APBA wont allow SS-PS to run them?
JR told me they cant run roller-cams..or 4-7.............BOB??

No rollers, no mushrooms lifters, no 4-7 swap. Not becuase they would create some advantage, because even if they did, it would take 1/2 a season and everybody would be running them. Roller rockers were not always legal. When they were, everybody bought them. When shaft rockers were made legal, ditto again. No different with every rule they have ever changed. Personally I think the flat tappet thing is reaching the point of stupid, no different than Nascars flat tappet rule.
I had a very long talk with one of the best engine builders in the APBA about SS cam rules. There is NOTHING you can write that will make a bit of difference in the out come of 99% of the races. If they outlawed roller rockers tomorrow, you would think that would curtail the insane cams they use. It would change a thing. It would only mean that some teams could run todays crazy cams, while others take a huge step backwards.

Too many people put too much emphasis on SS power. Granted, you can't much in the trailer in that class, but power is not everything. 3 teams use the same power as the winningest SS in history. They are esy to spot. If the one boat is still running and floating, they are the ones running 2nd and 3rd and still on the same straight away at the end of the 5 lap race. if you change every rule in the book, the results will be the same. More rules will only make the problem WORSE!!!!!

I seriously doubt we would have won a single champioship if I hadn't sat down and looked at what was going on with the 80 team. Watch Dave drive the GN 9 boat. Studied them, and paid more attention to what they were doing than worrying about another 25 HP.

Look at the GN 44 team. They will end up owning this season. I guarantee it. I can also guarantee they do not make the most power. Not even close! But the boat works like a Swiss watch, and the driver is robotic.
What difference does it make if they made 4-7 swap cams legal? Besides, 4-7 have proven to be even less power change on dual planes than single planes.

50 HP seems like a lot. I wouldn't ever swap a cam just to go to a 4-7 swap, but every new cam I buy now a days is one. May not be a lot of upside, but no down side unless rules prohibit it.
