inner cooler cold water shock?

Ok guys i want to use outdrive to force feed inner cooler. But am being told that no water at idle and the rush of cold water when i take off could crack the the innercooler? Is this fact? Seams like thats how must plum the innercooler.

I am not a fan of having water thru the chiller at idle. It invites fuel puddling in the manifold.
Never saw a reason to pump water thru one either. A drag system will feed the water when it needs water, and it does need water if the thing isn't in boost. If you in boost, your moving fast enough to supply it water.
How can it crack a chiller core, if the chiller core isn't hot. Where did the heat come from at a idle. Boost make heat. No boost, no heat.

Tested My Inercooler On The Trailer. Ran It No Load On The Trailer For 5 Minutes. Opened Water To Cooler. Water Out Of Outlet Was 140 Degrees. Water In Was About 80 Degrees. If The Jet Had Been In The Water It Would Have Had More Load Wich Would Have Made ThatOutlet Temp Even higher Just Idling. Just Saying.

You have serious problems. My intake runs cooler at idle then ambient. I feed my cooler out into my oil cooler and never seen 140 into the oil cooler under full load at the end of a 20 minute race. Maybe this is somethng that only happens to boats that have a USGC cert tag:)sphss

Well should have all the parts tomorrow. I have a hull pick up threw bottom of boat up to 1 1/4" hose to a sea strainer,with a psi dump out the back of boat. From strainer to a log header two stage pump, out the two stage pump log header, too oil cooler, power steering cooler,then in front of motor then out to headers and out the tail pipes. I added two small 1/4" hose dumps on the back upper rear of intake to a tee and then dumping out the back of boat. For inner cooler coming in from imco lower to sea strainer with psi dump out the back of boat. Then feed inner cooler from strainer and then dump out the back of inner cooler. Hope motor is happy. Water psi in motor 50mph shooting for 10-15PSI over 120MPh 20-25PSI. Same for inner cooler? 600 Merlin,big tubes, 8.3 Whipple,Pro 1 heads, 8PSI of boost,93 octane, 34deg locked out,1050s Dom,Afr 11.2-11.5

Skydog, the pressure feeding system is old school and I think most are pumping including mercury racing. I am converting mine right now with a 2 stage pump with one going to the intercooler. not sure I have heard of cores cracking but I have heard of heat soaking after hard runs then trying to get back on it when the water hasn't had a chance to cool everything.

I have done a lot of research on this in the field, on many boats, with full instrumentation. All results were a little different. Sometimes with a forcefed Imco lower, the cooler would get no water at certain trim levels and speeds. If you are in boost and making heat this is not good. You could change trim angle or speed up and see a little steam puking from the discharge as solid water came back on line. This is why it is trial and error, for your boat and your combo and your driving style. I recomend some form of preasure feed as I have described in this and other posts. This is why you put the discharge on the drivers side, so you can watch it. Some of these boats would get into boost for 5-10 seconds just rolling the boat over to plane. You have to figure this out, no one time internet answer.
