    Default Boat name

Wrong section but everyone pops in here

So when you buy a new boat, do you keep current name or make it your own and rename? Use your old boat name? Superstition? Curious what the consensus is.

No superstition. If I don't like the name I change it or remove it and leave it nameless. It's not like it answers to it's name like a dog.

    Default Re naming.....

There was a thread about this a while back and there was some sort of ceremony to go through when re naming a boat.... Of course it is superstition, but still, some people swear by it to avoid bad things happening...

I did this. It was fun for everyone involved and being that I spent 3yrs at sea in the USCG, I've learned to respect superstitions that are tied to Poseidon, Neptune and Davey Jones.
Instead of Champaign, I used rum, 151 Bacardi.

I don't have a problem changing the name without a ceremony.

The superstition goes back to sea going vessels way back when they were lucky to float much less live aboard for a long voyage. Needed all the luck you could get and couldn't afford any bad luck

About 9 sec at a time I wouldnt be too concerned.

I'm not superstitious, but I don't think I would be naming it Titanic II

Can you believe that guy????? Won't be seeing me on that thing.

Sea going vessel? Have you seen any of the Colorado river lakes when the wind blows? I'll take my chances by offering some good rum to the keepers of the deep.
