Default dumb question of the day

I am pretty unfamiliar with camshaft design. Is each individual lobe normally symetrical?

Normally? I GUESS could say yes. But there is a slew of performance cams that are NOT symeterical. The closing side can be considerably slower than the opening.

Its not just aftermarket cams that are asymetrical. The 30-30 Duntov used in HiPo SBC from 1958 thru 1969 were asymetrical.

    Thanks!

I cant remember what the cam in my SBC looked like. What about the 60 deg DOHC V6 ford engine? Do newer stock engines "normally' run asymetrical or symetrical?
