I have my rebuilt BBC In and hooked up . Cam needs broke in and Im thinking I want to do that in the water. I want to make sure I have no leaks or other issues at start up Can or should you pressure test a new engine before start up or do the gaskets need a heat cycle to seat . I used Fel Pro gaskets
I pressure checked the engine at 15lb and Its loosing about a one pound a hr Don't want to start it for the break in if its going to leak water. Do the gaskets need a heat cycle to seat The intake manifold was tight going in had to grind the tabs down to get it to fit . The heads and deck were not surfaced so it should have just dropped in . Some help would be great. My builder didn't seem to think its a problem but im sure he doent do jet boats every day
What does it being a jet boat have anything to do with it? It doesn't matter what it is on as far as the intake goes. It would be indentical to any other motor in anything... Why wouldn't it sit down properly? What tabs are you talking about?
Edit... Why would the gaskets need a heat cycle to seat? Would that not mean, they would leak on every motor every time a motor was assembled? How many motors hydro lock on initial start up?
