    Default Gen V block

Can anyone tell me why the Gen V block is not good for Marine use. Buddy of mine has on and doing research on it and it says not for Marine application! Block # is 10114182 with 14097088 heads!

Awful lot of Mercruser and Marine Power Gen5's and Gen6's running around out there since the early 90's.

088 heads are the rectangular port... gen5 version (basically) of the 990 head... and the block is just a gen5 block... 1pc rear seal... 4 bolt mains. Both are perfectly fine cores for use in a marine application.

The biggest drawback to a Gen 5 block is cylinder head compatibility, and you have that handled if you have a set of 088 heads. The timing covers are different than either MK IV or Gen 6, so be aware of that if you go to replace the stock one, and the oil pan is the same between Gen 5 and Gen 6.
