    Default Dart 8.1/496 Block

I'm looking to use one this winter. Anyone know if it is an exact replica of the GM marine block? I want to make sure every OE piece bolts up to it. (I've heard the oil lines or something won't work?) Thanks in advance.

The oil filter area and oil filter pad are more like a MK IV. The oil cooler connections aren't in the pan rail. So you are correct, the oil lines are not the same,.

For the cost of a Dart block you can probably find an entire 8.1 for sale.

Thanks for the quick reply and info. I'm guessing a truck 8.1 would have the same provisions as the marine version?

    Yep.
If you are moving everything over from another block, the one thing to check or install is a heavier oil filter bypass that was installed in Mercs.
GM Part # 25161284, or just take it out of the old block.

gn7 - I like the improvements Dart made to that 8.1 block (and the fact I could get an easy 535 cubic inches out of it) so if I were to go ahead and use one, is it just as simple as getting an adapter or a new oil line made? Or is the fitting on the pan rail is just not even there?

Anything else I should be aware of? Thanks much!

It wouldn't much to make the lines for the oil cooler, Lot easier that squeezing 535 out of that block, That can be done, but I wouldn't call it easy.
