    Default eagle crank 3.766 stroke

is any one running an eagle 439637666135 it seems like a good investment to me and factory steel cranks in my area have nearly dried up and the ones that are available are almost always .020 under already, I have heard of 2 l88 cranks cracking just in my circle of friends which

any one have any negative things to say about eagle cranks or are they a good choice they claim 1500 horse which is way way above my goals for my project my boat is run of the snout and will be double keyed with what ever I go with stock or aftermarket

    thanks for any input

You don't have much selection in the 396/427 cranks in the budget crank market. The Eagle is about your only choice. They are stronger than the original GM cranks, and stronger than the other Eagle BBC cranks due to more journal overlap, plus they are available in non cross drilled which is even stronger yet.
Give it a good eye inspection in the fillet areas, and a good journal measurement, and you'll be fine.

X2 on the journal measurement. Every Eagle I have seen in the last 6 or 7 years is oversize. As long as it is round and consistent you can get oversize bearings and be just fine. I would feel better with a better crank, but then again wouldn't we all. LOL

So are the factory's for that matter. What we are trying to do is way beyond what they were designed to do. At the same time, many of us are confined by our income and available resources. I would love to put a Bryant or Winberg in every engine I build, but funds do not allow it. Sometimes you have to play the cards you are dealt.

So what do I win for being honest? LOL Sorry, I could not help myself.

The stroke is the problem. Aside from Eagle, there is no econo cranks in that stroke. The next step from an Eagle is a Lunati at over twice the cost. closer to 3X.
Look at the choices. Stock and Eagle or Callies, Crower, and Lunati. Really think the OP would buy one of the last 3 if the first 2 didn't exist? I wouldn't. I'd build something else. The OP whats that stroke, and those are his choices. I doubt he would still built a 3.766 engine if his only choice was a 1500.00 crank.

From the looks of the last 2 NEW GM 3.766 5140 cranks I have seen, I would buy the Eagle without even opening the box.! But then that's what happens when even the GM cranks aren't made here.

Ran the Eagle crank that you have mentioned for 5 years in a racing blown application, 20 lbs boost at 8,200 rpms absolutely no problems, I would run it again without hesitation. Steve

I find it interesting that just a few years ago, the 3.766 Eagle was the only crank they sold that had options. You could buy it with or without center weights, and with or without cross drilling. Now there is only one, and I have no idea what "type" it is. My guess is non center weight, and cross drilled.

so you are saying that I should throw the G.M. 3.76 stroke crank away and buy other stuff instead? Even after it has been checked out, mag'd, and treated? Must add " it is an early model"

Nope, Where do you think I said that? Can you find that for me?
Between you and Moneypit, I will admit, the thought of Alzheimer's scares the shit out me.

I know what I wrote and I know what it says. It says nothing about throwing away a GM crank. It says NOTHING about early GM cranks. It doesn't even say anything about cast GM cranks!

YOU read that INTO that post. Or your reading comprehension is dismal.
