    I put some 215 lbs of weight on a scale & calibrated it @ 215 lbs then I put a 5 lb weight on the scale & set a 396 bbc bored .030 over on it. 180lbs for a 9.8 mark IV ,no main caps! so I went back out & reweighed & i got 185 lbs,( could have bumped dail).+ 20lbs for the main caps =200lbs -205lbs with mains. anybody know what a 454 weighs at different bore sizes & deck heights? pics & actual weighing for an accurate info needed. please ad to this thread as the internet is all over the place on weights . include dart blocks etc. too as some specs just don't add up. 8lb difference on an aluminum tall vs short deck on dart but no specs tall to short on iron blocks. bowtie says only 7lbs difference short to tall on iron blocks. iron difference should weight more than alumn. I would think? thanks , hopefully this could be a very informative thread
    .( the fuzzy pic is 210lbs -5 for the weight it is balanced on)

    I've got a stock bore old truck tall deck 427 that I'm picking up from getting shot blasted in a day or so I'll throw on the scale.

    blue print brand short deck block, 4.250 bore= 244 lbs with mains

    dart short deck block, 4.600 bore with mains =245-247 lbs

    bowtie tall deck 4.500 bore with mains , mark 4?= 264 lbs
    the blocks are sitting on a 5lb weight on the scale.

    weighed my block today & a "blue print" brand block at the shop & at racerricks house weighed his bowtie & bills dart. above.
    my gen iv ,short deck, bbc 454, bored to 4.360 (.110 over) weighed 204 lbs with main caps

    1. don't try to make 1100 HP with a stock block.
    2, where did the weight go in the Blueprint block with smaller bores Something to think about when considering buying one.
    3. Bow tie blocks are some stout sumbitches. .

    yes to all three &:

    1 maybe try cometic head gaskets on stock block.

    2 head gaskets don't like to stay sealed when they move around.

    3 typical o-ring jobs when used with alumn heads like to warp heads & leak water due to
    doubled up wire in between cylinders,without a receiver groove in head. figure 8 o-ring job preferred.

    4 receiver groove should be 150% wider than wire. wire sticking above deck no more than 25% of gasket thickness(if i remember right.)

    5 thin cylinder walls can crack horizontal at bottom of cyl.& sleeves will tend to start to leak if running hard on thin wall blocks.

    6 decks threads like to pull out on stock blocks.

    7 stock blocks bored big are @ 205 lbs

    8 blueprint block may be good for smaller bore with-out over kill on weight. i believe they have .300 thick cyl walls at 4.500. . shop is gonna check block out .hopefully sonic one to see.

    9 264lbs is over the limit to lift by myself right now. arms are 2" longer(bowtie tall deck 4.500)

    learning a lot lately. having block sealed with i believe a ceramic sealer. want to sell after repaired to a less hp application.

    I finally got the block back. Tall deck gen iv 427, cam bearings in, no bolts just set the caps on top,222 lbs standard bore.Sorry for the delay.

    The rotary motors are compact light weight power house motors

    Only a jet engine has a better power ratio

    I read that the same team that built the Smith 12 rotor motor, had also put a outboard rotary together.Our team would like to talk them out of it.

    I think a 700 + hp 12000 RPM outboard might work
