    Default Zoomies or Headers

OK, I don't know crap about blown/injected engines except they go pretty fast and are louder than hell. Seems most guys running blown/injected engines opt for zoomies... Do headers really hurt the performance that much? Talking in the context of a 1200 HP bracket boat, not an all out TAF/TAH. There's a pic on top of page 94 in Wild V-Drives of a TR-5 with headers on a blown/injected deal.... I like that look so I'm just wondering if zoomies are necessary....

You have power to spare. Put anything you want on it. Hell....maybe it will soften the motor enough to where they can put some lead in the thing.

I have spoken with a few people on this matter. Mostly drag race blacktop guys. (I say I have heard because I have not seen the numbers, so this remains hearsay even though a few of the guys that I have spoken with are BIG DOGS!) They say that a well set up header with well formed collector will make more power in a blown alcohol application.
The problem comes downtrack where air sweeping by the open air zoomie aimed back actually pulls the air out of the pipe like a collector would work. And that zoomies are so much easier to make - fit - etc. into the particular car/boat etc. Then there is the application idea Fiat just came up with. If you have power to spare, run zoomies because they are easy, they sound like noting else on earth, and they are just cool!
    Hope this helps.

Pretty sure he is running zoomies now and wants to get away from the noise.

A friend of mine's blown carbed 1200HP 5-passenger lake boat runs Bassett injected headers, THRU TRANSOM.
Doesn't seem to hurt him too much.

Not anywhere that they'll put a decibel-meter within 50 feet of them.

Nothing fun is "legal" in California... It's all about what you can get away with

    Hey David,

I saw you got a few rounds in this past weekend, so the boat ran pretty good for you ?

Glad to see you got it running...

Yea, it was hauling @$$, but it wasn't my motor. We had a loaner in it. Mine is still apart trying to decide on what to build for next year. Seems everytime I come up with a good idea, I look at my checkbook and it's not so good anymore

One night, while drinking Jack and Cokes, I came up with the idea of zoomies with 8 mini-shotgun tips on it, at least then I would know if a cylinder was missing. I sobered up eventually.

If you want to quiet a boat down, put a collector muffler on it. Please don't run water in headers on a real performance engine. Please!
