    Question Blower coupler/snout question?

    I recently purchased a new old stock mooneyham 10:71. I have a drive setup of a different blower, BDS to be exact, I thought couplers and snouts were universal when it came to roots setups, but I guess I was mistaken.

    I need help identifying which parts, or what needs to be done, to complete the drive/snout setup for this unit. It appears that the main bolt holding the front gear on to the rotor, a large arp 12 point, is too long to accommodate the shaft in my coupler. The shaft within the coupler bottoms out on this nut before the flanges meet. The bolt on the blower goes past the flange face almost a half an inch, whereas the shaft in the snout is pretty much flush with the flange face. I have attached a few pictures for reference.

    I guess bottom line, I'm trying to understand if there is a specific snout/coupler for mooneyham blowers, or if there is a specific reason that this spacer and large arp bolt was used. I tried emailing and calling mooneyham with no luck, not sure if there are even around...

    Any help on what I need to get the blower drive setup correctly would be greatly appreciated!!

    That ARP 12 point has to go. You need a coupler adaptor for the shaft type you have. There only about 3 types, and one of them hasn't been used in years

    The 12 point fastener is too large is will interfere with the coupler that bolts to the smaller threaded holes on the gear.

    Get ahold of someone at BDS or Goodvibrations Motorsports and they can set you up with the proper drive adaptor.

    Thanks!! I have a coupler like the one pictured for the snout I have. Obviously it doesnt work as the shaft hits the arp bolt first. Didnt know if there was some special reason that it was used. Can I just remove that blot and replace with standard hex? Or will that throw off the timing?

    Shit can the ARP bolt and use a grade 8 hex bolt and install your adaptor using allen head cap screws and red lock tite

    Just a guess on the arp bolt,could be they used it to spin the blower over with an impact wrench -I don't do it but I saw a youtube video that showed it

    Gotcha. I was hoping it would be as simple as that. Is the gear also pressed onto the rotor shaft? If I loosen it up to take the bolt out, it wont throw the timing off or anything, correct?

    It will be fine. Timing is done with shims behind the gears.
