Tubo size vs. cid.

    Default Tubo size vs. cid.

    Do we have a guide ine or fomula to figure out what base tubos one would use while planing an engine build . I know nothing on turbos . I AM going to have twin turbos on Somthing i own . I am going to start planning a build on a 355 cid Chevy . I would like to make an educated guess to the cost of the turbos. So i need to find out what would work with my potential build ! Thank you !

    You'll have to start with how much power do you want it to make. From there, you can figure out how many #/min of air you need, then find the turbos that are rated for that amount of #/min.

    There are ALOT of variables with regard to mapping the right turbo for a particular application. I have read alot but have little practical experience, my welding/fabrication buddy on the otherhand has LOADS of experience with turbos. When he is picking out the right turbo (AR, compressor, turbine, bearings, intercooler) he just calls Turbonetics and gives them the basic parameters of the engine/application. In some cases he will end up making minor changes to the housings or components but its so complex that even he lets the pros pick out the baseline turbo. Kind of like having a custom ground cam for a specific engine/trans/gear/application combo.

    Just google "turbo map" and try to make some sense out of it, its tooo complex for my pea brain...

    if boat, go big single, its less weight and easier. i'm building a big boost(25psi) 383sbc with a bullseye s480 80mm, which will carry it to 1200hp/1000+ftlbs pretty easily. just 1 turbo header to watch a/f ratio at, just 1 air to water inline intercooler, 1 small 750cfm blower shop blow thru carb, 1 60mm wastegate, 1 blow off valve.simple and light

    turbo is around 1000
    carb around 750-800 from blower shop
    tubing, silicone,clamps, 300
    air to water i.c. from ebay 159
    ebay turbo sbc ss turbo headers, swept forward(flip em over) for 159 bucks
    100 buck ebay 60mm wastegate
    100 buck ebay blow off valve
    nutha couple 100 for misc crap plus nutha 200 for boost control

    if you're wanting twins, cost will go up another 1000 or more pretty quikly.go check out yellowbullet.com's turbo section, some good stuff there with alot of pics of peeps set-ups.

    Very well said, and most importantly don't buy used crap, and be prepared for some fabrication, unless you are buying a "kit" . . . . . which BTW is never really a "kit".
