Looks like they started out with a semi tractor diesel engine block.
I have to hand it to the tractor pullers and their innovations.
When it gets to where you have to fabricate it yourself and you can't just buy it off the shelf already done it's a whole different game.

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

Follow the yellow bullet link on the first page and it tells a little about it.
It runs on alcohol and it's a 600 ci 6 banger.
Most of those guys run the turbos in series and each additional turbo adds 40+ psi. I don't think longevity is a factor.

In the 80's we did the valve jobs and other work on 2 of these tractors since then I have done the camshaft of one of them. The one was an Oliver 88 that a GM engineer had done one hell of a job on in design work with a billet aluminum solid head. It was the mild one at only 80 pounds of boost. The second was an Allis Chambers 426 CID 6 cylinder, it was the "hot" one with a 3 stage turbo system and 140#'s of boost. Even with water injection the intake manifold temp would run in the 1200 degree range. Never dyno'd but was thought to put out somewhere around 2800HP on diesel...

Spooled up both of these things would send you to hills to hide .. . .but they are cool...

Can you even comprehend the noise!!!! OMG!!!
That would actually be a very simple head to fabricate. With that much boost, port shape and effeciency is minimized, to say the least....
Biggest challange would be keeping it together, and that's just a matter of mass!

The oliver was an engineering masterpiece. The class stated you had to run the OEM block which was a 3 main block which he modified to use another OEM oliver crank that was a 7 main crank. All new mains were drilled and tapped into the OEM oiling system. It used BBC Pistons mounted on modifed production Oliver rods. It was pretty cool...
