    Default 11,000 rpm on BBC

A friend of mine after too many drinks free ran his blown alcohol 565cu all aluminum BBC to over 11,000 rpm. How far should he go in a teardown. to check for damage?

I'm surprised he has to tear it down to find out.

If the pistons didn't touch the valves then replace the rod bolts and do all over again

I think someone here had that experience and didn't replace the stretched rod bolts and paid for it Big Time later.

I stretched mine to almost 10k before on an unload.

Check the rod bolts for sure.

For sure! Pretty hard 2 believe that motor survived! Think it's running double my RPM's (envy activated!).

No kidding! Talk about a "bullet-proof" build!

    Unbelievable.

I'm pretty sure I banged it over 10k when our driveline let go. Not telling anyone what to do, just saying what I'd do if it ever happened to me again. I'd leak the motor down to see if I tagged any valves, then pull it down to replace the rod bolts and bearings.
That said, my phuck-up happened because of no rev limiter (vertex mag, the extra HP they make over a electronic ignition still isn't worth the risk ). I will never run a race motor without a rev limter again.
