    Default rev limiter

So my new MSD rev limiter showed up today.. and i had a question. It came with preset 3000 6000 7000 and 8000 RPM setting chips. I can order another kit with what ever specific ones i need. However what is a safe number to put on a 350 SBC.

I want to say it spins around 4600 so would it make sence to buy a kit that wont let it get beyond this mark? Or should i set it to the max of what a SBC should spin at safely? And if so how many RPMs is safe on a SBC?

put the 6k in for now and order a 5500 chip or balance the motor and lil er spin 7k

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

MSD told me that you should allow 300 or so rpm leway so the box wont cut out at your desired rpm. my engine makes peak @ 6200 and it spins @ 6200 so i have a 6600 chip in it. This will change with the silly gas.

How high you spin it depends on how its built. A stocker about 5500. Built to the guilts, 9000 or more.

You mean like when the CP ran 99.8 mph for 2 years and wouldn't break 100 even with maxed out Nos jets. Then one weekend after two years of banging my head against the transom, holed pistons and countless hardware changes and countles lbs of Nos I changed the 6,800 rpm chip to a 7,200 chip and the boat ran 102.3 You mean like that Tim

Those chips drop cylinders ( or can) before you hit the rpm on the chip. So yes use 200-300 rpm than the desired rpm.

A 5,400-5,500 chip should be fine for the smblk.

Mine come in early. A 7400 chip and the tack shows 7200. I thought it was my tack. Sent it back to Autometer. They sent me a new one and the 3 chips I put in it all came in 200 rpm early. I didn't think MSD chips would be that far off, but 2 tacks show it, so maybe so.
