    Default Warpspeed - WTH ?

What is going on at Hendrick Motorsports ?
    Jr two engines ?
Mark loosing a valve cover ?

That sounds like alot of rookie mistakes to me. Or was Mark driving Herbie, the 53 Volkswagon ?

Both the 5 and the 88 seem to have lost valve springs. Something we haven't seen in quite some time. Prolly just a batch issue as everything run there was the norm. I'll know more this morning.
Jr only lost one engine, apparently he had a vibration in the transmission and they changed it during practice. That is why he started in the rear.
The valve cover "falling off" as Mark put it was referring to a valve train problem, not the cover literally "falling off"!

Should make for a long week!

it doesn't have to be the heat treat with those things. The smallest flaw in the wire, surface nick, shot peening, material variances, anything at the R's those things are running. Remember, they have to shut that valve, not bounce it any more than can be helped, and do it at 9000+ and they don't have the benefit of a 600 lb spring. I can remember Grumpy's Vega turning those R's for 1/4 mi. and that was a big deal with a roller, and he still had to be right on top of the springs all the time. I can assure you he never ran them 2000 trips through the 1/4! It's pretty amazing they do it at all.

I can gaurantee, if anything I built spun 9500+, something more than springs would break but in your case, try thawing them out with a torch first. I've been told damn near anything breaks below -300*
