    Default Cam for 555" bbc

I have as Phaff 555" in my 28 eagleand am looking to replace the cam. The cam currently in the engine is different from the cam phaff put in it. I have a feeling that the current cam is hindering the performance. The engine is a std deck gm bow tie with a dart single plane intake manifold, dart aluminum heads and a 1050 dominator carb. I'm looking for a cam to replace the present one with that is more appropriate for the engine. Unfortunately I do not have the grind specs on the present cam but the dyno sheets I have from phaff show the engine make 680 hp at 500hp. I know this is probably a long shot but I'm looking for any help I can get.

Usually a dyno sheet will list engine specs, including cam specs. It's not on there? You can probably call Pfaff and see if they have records and can supply the same cam. You have a typo in your post, at what rpm did it make peak power?

Get ahold of straub technologies or chris straub here, buy a cam built for your motor in your boat

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

Does that mean the cam you got from me in your 496 is not good?

The Straub cam went in your 621 that has not run yet, I got the other turbo cam from my guy. His cams have never disappointed me and I have put together who knows how many engines with them.

There's a Straub cam in this motor. I like it a lot and so did the engine builder.

    Default Cam choice

It doesn't matter who you choose to pick your cam but you are going to need to provide a little more information on the heads and possibly a flow sheet. You will also need to decide what your intentions are for the engine. Are you looking to make more power? Do you want to make the power at a different rpm? What's wrong with the cam that you have right now and what cam is in the engine now. You might be better off talking to the original builder and tell him what you would like the engine to do. The original builder should have a build sheet for the engine and with a build sheet he would have the information needed to pick the right cam.

    Good Luck.

I agree.........I should have said "No matter who you choose........they will need more information".

The more information you can provide, the better the results will be. I don't think he could go wrong having Chris Straub pick a cam for his engine, but even Straub will need more information.
