Will Gen Vi timing set work on a Gen 5? Serached around and havent found a definite
answer on if timing set is different from Gen 5 to the other years?
If it makes you say DAMN it must be a CARRERA

Yes, if you are using the Gen 5/6 style cam with the step nose. You can also use a MK IV style cam (with MK IV timing set), but you will need an aftermarket timing cover to clear a double roller chain set.

Its a Mercruiser 454 mag Gen 5 with flat tappet cam..
Seeing as its flat tappet I would guess it is a gen4 style cam or did they step the nose on those as well?
    Thanks for info..

No stepped face flat tappets, only rollers. A mark 4 timing set will work in a Gen5/6. A Gen 6 will work in a mark 4 with the retaining plate.

Note, 1 out of every 10 Gen5/6 builds the rollmaster set we sell contacts the block. I have heard the cloyes set as well does this. Always mock it up and check it before assembly.
