Default Need help choosing turbos updated dyno with new turbos.

So here's the story, I bought a turbo system from c & s which included 2 turbos, 2 Wastegates, BOV, pro carb hat and a blow thru carb. These guys were very secretive regarding turbo sizing. All of this is on a bbc 565 8.5 to 1 with Brodix bb2 extra heads that are untouched. Straub ground the cam Brodix single plane manifold as well. When I showed up at the dyno the first thing they said was those turbos look small. The only numbers c and s ever gave up were they were 78/65 turbos.
When the dyno ran the motor made 1000 ft torque by 3400 rpm and the best we got out of the engine was 981 at 6300. No need to go higher as it was falling off. The dyno graph looks like a hump and when adjusting from 10 to 18 pounds of boost we only gained 40 hp. I told c and s I was looking for 1200 hp out of this motor and I figured it would be doable with 15 to 20 pounds of boost. With all this said I'm sure the turbos are way too small on the exhaust size and need some good recommendations on a pair of replacements. Thanks

Thanks to Jose at Forced Inductions he set me up with a couple of Borg Warner turbos. They are 75/102 - 92/82 turbines t4 with a 1.10 A/R. What a difference in performance. At 13 psi of boost it made just under 1100 and at 23 psi it made over 1400 HP. Here are pics of the dyno sheets. The first ones are with C & S Chinese turbos that made 963 at 23 psi of boost. The new Borg Warner turbos made over 1400 HP at under 23 psi.

Gonna guess you're going to get a lot of recommendations for Borg Warner/Bullseye S475 and/or S480 with a 1.32 AR Turbine housing. T

    Exactly

Looks like that thing is being choked of by that small turbine side.

Can be bought for about $650 each, will make that 1200hp on low boost # , and theres always more there if you want it. That engine is similar cid to mine, my heads are the C&C'd version of the BB2xtras. And strong chance that my camshaft is smaller.

anyway you could post a link so I buy the right ones. There's so many choices it's confusing.

These guys have them for $649, but you need to call & tell them exactly what you expect from the engine. They make this turbo with a 1.10 A/R turbin housing option, which might make more since for your engine since you are only looking for 1200hp. The larger 1.32 A/R housing that come on the $649 turbos will allow close to 2k hp but will be a tiny bit more lag.

Looks like the Chinese are making an exact copy to the S475 Borg. Pretty cheap if it lives. For the extra $$ , I would still go with the Borg though, they are very durable.

X3 on the s475's , theyre great durable turbos that can be bought cheap and upgraded easily when the time comes.

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

One small problem, he appears to have T4 based units. Will need to swap out those flanges to T6, which they should have been anyway with an engine that size.

I noticed in this link, they're available in a T4 housing. Where a T6 might be preferred, I don't see a T4 being too detrimental and might be worth the trade off to gain ease of mounting. No?

Edit: The 96mm turbine is T6 only, the T6/T4 option is on the 92, 87, & 83mm turbines. I'm not completely up to speed on the exhaust side. What's the best option for Panic Attack?

T6 all the way with the Borg turbos. Who's headers?
My small cid BBC runs a larger turbine side.

    Default S475

    Nice looking package!
Im not a turbo gruru, but those turbos dont look that small to me. The dyno sheet at 1000#, and 900hp seems way off to me. The physical size of those seems even if they are on the small size that they would have made more even before choking. Can you pull covers and measue the impellers? Then you will know what you have, and about what they should make. Or if something else is wrong. Might try that before spending more money.
This what l have x2. They are from Forced inductions. Will be on 500-540ci. They are the basic 74-96 BW 1.32 T6.
Ive seen links on YB at $600-650.00 new. I agree for 150.00 ea, l would go with the BW over a knock off.
If you are intrested in a knock off or dont mind a chinese turbo, guys on YB have been having good luck and performance with the T45. They cost 300.00ea, and support 600+ hp each.
Let us know how it turns out.
    Be safe, schick

I do have the t4 mounting flange and changing to t6 will be difficult. I would prefer to find a t4 that would work.
