    Default Header Discoloration

What you guys think is going on here ?
E85 and about 2-4# boost at 30* timing
Carb builder says not enough timing and excessive fuel burning in collectors , cooking off coating at that point and to bump timing up to 34* to get more burn in cylinders
any other guesses ? Hate to burn this thing down

Trust me here. He is correct. The correct cam for a blown gas/ e 85 motor will put more heat in the exhaust than it wants but thats what keeps the cylinders kool.

Just made a couple hits to check fuel system , leaks . Etc etc Fixing to turn up the screw a bit next time And yes these are dry headers

Mine did that on a naturally aspirated tunnel ram. My wife had accidentally captured a picture of fire in my collectors after I shut down. Added some timing and no more fire. But the headers are definitely scarred.

Not real thrilled about cooking the coatings off a $2k set of headers either

But if that's the nature of the e85 beast I guess I will live with it

It is not that it is E85, it is just that the tune up was not quite happy with what you were looking to get out of it.

Are you using an O2 meter? That will certainly give you an idea where you're at.

I'm running a FAST meter that indicates actual A/F readings, and I think I'm running in the upper 7's. (it's from memory)
You might find this information on A/F readings interesting from a few years back. http://www.performanceboats.com/gn7-...ml#post1254992

I'm running 30* locked timing with about 12 pounds boost. (9.4 CR)
The boost pressure is based on the Blowershop advertised calculations for my engine size and the blower I'm using. (Not actual measured boost on my engine)
My guess is that i'm closer to 10 pounds boost as most advertised boost is higher than actual boost turns out from what i've heard.
