    Default bbc cam

I have a Gen V/VI Hydraulic roller cam with the stepped front journal. Can this cam be used in a Gen IV block? Is there a retrofit gear and chain set or can I just use a Gen V/VI chain and sprockets?

It can be used if your block has provisions (drilled and tapped holes)for the cam retainer plate. I have a mk 4 bow tie block that uses the gen 5/6. As far as a timing set goes, the stock gm single roller is sufficient unless you are going to be turning the engine real hard (6500 plus) the timing set is worth replacing for 65.00 when you have the front of the engine taken apart if you end up swapping the cam

Yes you can. During mock up be sure timing set does not interfere with block. This happens about 2 out of every 10 blocks.

    Thanks for the replies.
I used a GM Performance #12371053 timing chain and gear kit. This kit came complete with gears, chain, bolts and retainer plate. It fit great with no clearance issues and I was able to keep the stock timing cover. I was also very happy when I degreed the cam and it was right were it need to be staight out of the box. They say this set up is good below 6500 rpm which worked good for my mild lake boat engine.
