There have been plenty of discussions on these heads. In a nutshell, you'll get what you pay for, and in reality, for not a lot more, you can get a lot more. It's all relative to your goal, and what you have to spend.

Subject has been beat to death, try a search, I ran them last year out of the box with no problems yet. There are many china made parts haters on here. Impatient 1 has run them as well. You're probably going to have to run non-stock parts so get them bare as a lot of Pro Comp hardware doesn't work with other ProComp hardware. You'd be lucky to buy one head of the competitor's for the price of a pair of Pro Comps, unless you buy a Pro Comp copy because it's not from China. The competitor's head's will also need other hardware.

If you can afford to buy a better head, buy a better head as they are for the most part out of the box as advertised. If you can not afford the better Aluminum head, invest in a good iron head. Unless you are an engine machinist, and can do all the work your self, you will find the Pro-Comp heads will come up way short of your goals. People will tell you they work fine, but don't short your self to be lackluster
