Default What are you guys turning your 555/565 Combos ?

Just curious what rpm/hp your getting reliably out of them ?
So far I've only pushed my 555 to 6400 on limiter but that was just a quick throttle stab running "A" SS Dominator impeller with inducer and stuffer -3" FTN nozzle

The highest I/we ever had any of our 565's was 10,500RPM if I remember right. Granted we did not plan on it going that high, but when the trans let go, well you get the idea. We took out those rods and had the crank checked. The rods checked out fine and the bolts did not stretch. The only thing that happened was we had a jesel stand come loose. After that we started welding all of our stands together to provide better support. We would normally run that one to 8000 at the shift. Granted what you have in them for parts dictates a lot of the RPM potential.

Oh, I remember that one ^. Las Vegas CIFCA event, if I'm not mistaken. Thanks for the memory Paul.

Mines only a 540, but I turn it 75-7600 on a regular basis and it's been there many times.
I know yours is a jet and mine is a V-Drive, so I don't know if that makes a difference for what you're asking.

You can push that combination, if it's all put together right, to well past 7000. I wouldn't lose any sleep if it saw 8000.

Cool ! Just looking for a safe spot to max out rev limiter at , probably set it at 7400-7600 then 👍🏼

On a jet boat I set rev limiter to where ever I think the impeller will stop pulling. Make some runs and set the rev limiter low...keep bumping it up till you stop hitting it. Leave it there. Reason being, when you come out of the water, you don't want to go back in the water with the engine 500+rpm above where it was running. That's really hard on things, plus...rev limiters can be a little "slow" to react. You may set it at 7400 but before the rev limiter can actually catch the motor you may well see almost 8000. JMO.

I have my MSD limiter set at 7500 on my SunsetRacecraft 565, have had it there a few times.

We raced our 565 in QE about 7,100 - 7,200. PE was around 6,800. Have had it boosted up to 8,200 a few times before we realized how fast that actually was.

usually between 6300-6400. depending on weather, sometimes, a little over 6400, sometimes in the high 6200s. at firebird, 6600-6700, with a few seconds past the start beam at 7000-7100.

if it were me, i'd really want to know what max rpm is without being on a limiter. I always set the limiter a minimum of 200 above max running rpm. sometimes 300. mainly because I don't want any unintended interference. just run the limiter to 7000, see what max rpm is, set the limiter a few hundred over that.
