Default Altenator wiring question (HEI SWAP)

I have a quick question.... I just swapped to a Hei and there is a wire coming from my altenator (yellow) that went to my 12volt side of ballast... Now that I ditched the ballast and coil, what do I do with the wire? Also what does the wire do?
Im running a old school original Motorola marine Altenator that has the small yellow wire, and larger gauge orange wire going to battery terminal on fusebox.......

I think that the wire you are referring to is probably the "exciter" wire for the alternator. You state that it was connected to the B+ side of the ballast resistor. That would tell me that it would supply B+ to the alternator with the ignition in the "on" position. Just connect the wire to a ignition "key on" source. hope that helps. In some cases, you may need to install a diode in the exciter wire to the alternator, if it causes a "feedback" when the engine is shut down. (I would not connect the yellow wire to the HEI battery feed)
