Default How do you test a coil??

Just put my junk back together(from the broken rocker deal) and no sparky sparky. I have juice to the hei, not sure if it's the coil or the module. Just curious if this is something I can check at home.

if i read your post correctly you are running an hei distributor? if so make sure that the spade connector is actually on the male terminal coming from the coil. i have seen this many times where people get the connector wedged between the male terminal of the coil and the plastic housing of the cap. when this happen it feels like it is connected on the male terminal, but in fact is not.

this is a very simple easy check before you start replacing stuff.

Thanks.. I pulled the cap she's on there all right, dist. isn't 180* out, firing order quadruple checked. But no spark? I think god hates me, whatever you do don't anyone name your boat the cash eliminator.lol Maybe I'll try a different ground, I would think laying the plug on my header tube would do it.

Put your tongue on the wire and crank it over.

I'm almost willing to bet it's the module. You almost never hear of HEI coils going bad but there always seems to be an abundance of HEI modules that do.

i can tell you how you dont do it.. You dont pull plug wire number one and hold it while looking into the boot.. then you most definately dont ask the wife to start cranking the motor over....

All i can say is HOLY SHIT THAT HURT!!!!

Disconnect the wires going to the BATT+ and TACH terminals, disconnect the 3 wire connector off behind the BATT + and the TACH terminals, then remove the coil cover. Then connect an ohm meter between terminals B+ and C- behind the BATT+ and the TACH terminals under the terminal block on the cap (should be the outermost terminals...the center terminal is a ground). This is the primary side of the coil. Should read a relaively low resistance.
