Default Spark Problems.. (msd haters avoid)

weird issue, just got the motor back in the boat tried to start it and nothing. My setup is a MSD 6AL box, Blaster2 Coil, Pro-Billet Marine Dist. The cap and rotor have one weekend on them and a few driveway runs. MSD unit looks to be getting power, if i take my timming light and clamp it to #1 i get nothing. If i take the timming light and clamp it to the coil wire that runs to the dist the light blinks like crazy. So to me i'm getting spark to the cap but from there i'm having a problem. Pulled the cap used alittle emory cloth and cleaned up terminals on rotor and cap, same problem. Actually whats weird is when i was clamped to #1 i got one spark out of it (one blink on the light) and then nothing. I clamped one other wire and same deal. My thinking is my cap or rotor is bad but how, it's so simple and even if there was a break in a term the spark is powerful enough to jump and i should still see somthing. Any Ideas?

I had problems just like this with the same set up very frustrating, what mine wound up being was the magnetic pick up was bad in a bran new distributer, so try replacing it and see what happens, a $20 part might solve your problem. When MSD works it works great but when it dont its hard to track down the problem. Good luck with it

Go over your install again and make sure everything is the way it should be. Check your grounds. I assume its turning over so battery charge is good?

Sounds like Dan might be on to something. Id call MSD and see if they can send you one free of charge, tell them you tried a friends and it worked... or order one from your favorite supplier.

Check your coil wire going into the cap

When using the new style MSD caps and rotors, be sure to check the rotor tab. The tabs are creating strange problems, arcing, and burning the carbon buttons out, off the cap.Make sure the rotor tab pushes the distributor cap off the base, or it's gonna give you some problems.

Dont think it's that, when timming light is hooked to the cable between coil and dist the light will blink like crazy when turing the motor. If i disconnect the connection to the distributor (magnetic pickup lines) this doesnt happen. So this tells me that the magnetic pickup is working ok.
