Default Is this a bad idea?

Maybe Iím just paranoid here but I just think this is a bad idea. Not my motor but some friends on another board. Triton V8 with a blown out spark plug. So he is going to use this but without removing the head. Isnít drilling into your spark plug hole and getting shit into your combustion chamber a bad thing? Or am I just being a sissy.

Well, it's not a good thing, but I used to do VW's all the time that way, didn't have to drill anything though, just run the tap that came with the kit in the hole, put the insert in and done. Coated the tap with grease to catch an many chips as it could, but I'm sure lots of them still ended up in the combustion chamber. You could also hook some small vacuum hose up to a shop vac shove it in the hole and suck out some more.

I know it is not the best but they are done all the time around here! The expence is very large to remove and reinstall! And this is a common problem with these motors! WT

Aluminum heads, not so bad...cast iron heads, not a very good idea.

Don't particularly like doing it......but done it before and works well.

If I were him, I'd never have bought the ford in the 1st place.

It's an especially bad problem on aluminum heads when someone makes the mistake of trying to remove the spark plugs, while the heads are warm.
The plugs come out, the threads often do to.

Step-daughters car some years ago just spit a plug out one day, I suspect someone f'd it up, got a plug to hold for a while, and sold it.
Had it coiled, no head removed, she drove it several years till she spun it on some ice and wrecked it one very early AM.
The small particles that get in, especially with the tap greased catching the vast majority, spit right out the exhaust very shortly.

Not the greatest way for things to be, but it works just fine.

This is not really a basic alum head issue. This is a Triton engine issue. They only have about 3 rounds of thread on the plug. There are thousands of these heads that have lost one or more plug holes. The best repair for these is made by Lock-N-Stitch Inc.

That just ain't enough. "Better Idea" apparently, not quite so good.
