Just got back from Bonneville. What an experience. No two vehicles the same there. Lot's of innovation and lots of broken parts.
It takes a lot different equipment to take holding it WOT for 5 miles than a drag racing application.
The team I hung out with had some electrical problems up through Saturday although they worked it out and set a new record on Sunday.

The salt flats area is just huge and spread out, even the pits were over 1/2 mile long.
Maximum HP is not the main factor here because there is no real traction to be had on the salt.
A few cars looked like converted alcohol funny cars and dragsters.
The power came on so radical that they had a hard time hooking up.
There were several spinouts at real high speeds. A guy layed down a twin engine harley.
No serious injuries that I saw.

Here are some of the vehicles,

    16v92 Detroit diesel semi tractor,

    Twin turbo BBC streamliner,

    Turbo Harley,

    Twin turbo Duramax diesel streamliner,

My favorite, Twin turbo 540 BBC Ferrari,

I took this pic not for the bike but her skin tight leather suit really did it for me,
