    Default Paging impatient1 and unchained....

Ok I have followed a few of your posts and I am blown away at your abilities to make a nice priced high HP engine. I would like some help putting together a relatively low priced 900-1000hp RELIABLE engine. I will be starting from scratch and have a lot to learn. This will be going into a 28ft cat. Turbos are great...but it will be a closed hatch.

Lets talk about the short block. What do you suggest.

put alil 4.25 stroke standard deck 496 together , callies compstar crank, scat hbeam rods, je blower flattops(basically the same shortblock we run on the twin turbo 496 my uncle's making huge power with). i'm a power adder guy(boost), so if you're wantin that kinda power na, might wanna talk to someone else as i've never been able to afford to build 1000na motors the stuff i do is all max effort budget stuff. 1 big turbo would make a 1000hp pretty easy with a 850cfm quickfuel carb though, jus puttin it in yo ear

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

Gonna have to run water cooled exhaust with a engine cover. That will limit the amount of power you can make. Gonna have to be a T4 flange which will restrict the exhaust flow and limit the size of turbos you can run.
    Hatch cover= between 800-900 hp
no hatch cover=pump gas 1000 hp easy with the right combo

Turbo seems to be the way to go. can I get a 496 to 900-1000hp RELIABLE under the hatch? I want this motor to live.

yes, i believe you can if we could find you a set of banks turbo logs to start the build with. turbo motors are all about reliablity, look at unchained or hass828's motors, they're still runnin the same motors for almost a decade, how much more reliabe does it get?

we need to get hass828 involved on this 1, he knows the water cooled turbos housings, stuff like that and can get ya on the right track. maybe you can talk him into selling you his complete bank turbo set-up ready to bolt on, i've been tryin to get him to sell it for months be the perfect set-up for you!!

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

I thought that the old banks system was a pull through type and limited the power?

it is but with bigger turbs on it, its the simplest way to do what you wanna do you don't have alot of choices with headers man, unchained, hass and me run dragboats and heat vents by airflow. i still thank a banks system with alil bigger turbs on it would do you right and last a longgggg time, would be a reliable set-up. that hatch cover really limits ya brother.

fyi, even with the banks set-up, we can help you convert to a blow thru set-up using the logs and turbs from a banks dealio. it doesn't have to be a draw thru set-up, we can help you make it blow thru which would make alot more hp and be more responsive.

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

If it's got to be under a hatch then the Procharger setup is hard to beat.
The heat issues would be huge with turbo's.

Mark I have to agree, a M4 system would do 1000HP
easy. The Procharger would be easier on the drives too.
a self contained option would make it reliable and quiet.

yeah, i don't know why you would even bother with trying to make a turbo work with an engine compartment. especially when a procharger is a turbo....just belt driven, so it acts very similar and they make as big a prochargers as you want to make power. I also want to get a cover over my engine eventually which is one of the main reasons i went with a procharger. tons of power potential, 10-12 lbs with a big procharger will make 1000hp easily. toss on another 8-10 lbs and your in the 1400-1600 hp range. they also work really well with the blow thru carbs which Impatient and Hass love, but efi is what i am doing...same with Outlaw and obviously Unchained is efi.

with either big turbos or big procharger you can pretty much build anything cu. in. wise and still easily make 1000hp. I'd just see what you can find in regards to good deals on quality parts, then just see what you come up with. I ended up with a 502 because i had real nice 4.0 billet crank that came in the engine i bought complete. also had a tall deck with some long rods, but i almost went with a 4.5 stroke because i had a line on a really nice crank, but it didn't work out so i went another direction....all i'm saying is that you can build whatever you want and make that power no problem, just make sure its some quality parts. And believe me there are some killer deals out there right now, which really cut down on total cost of the build...i love used parts, most of the quality parts out there are very... very lightly used. unchained is running some used rods, i am too...shoot...pretty much the only new part i have in the rotating assembly are my je pistons. just my .02

www.yellowbullet.com is a great source for info and parts. Lots of Procharger stuff for sale over there. I have bought a great deal of new/unused parts for my build there. Saved a lot of money. For turbo systems, any of the Mercruiser type watercooled exhaust manifolds can be used and will work better than the old Banks logs. I know where 2 sets of Drake manifolds are. Just have to fab a transition to a T4 or T6 flange. You can also fab watercooled housings and exhaust. Procharger would probably be easier.

Default here is an under hatch turbo motor-good to 1650 hp

Here is a pic of the almost finished donovan bbc twin turbo with everything water-jacketed for under hatch use. These components have been used in speed skiing motors for years and have made 1650 hp on a 557 cubic inch bbc at around 20 lbs of boost. They are garrett 4294 turbos . I am making new larger transitions for the innercooler to utilize the entire length and width of the cores. Should be done in a week. Here is a pic of almost finished motor. It will be efi and an efi technology comp will be used.
